Job searching can feel like a full-time job with zero benefits, unpaid overtime, and entirely too many rejection emails hitting your inbox at all times of the day and night. I get it. If you’re in this season right now, you know it can wear on your energy, confidence, and motivation.
Please stop thinking you need to overhaul your life or grind 24/7 to see real progress. Small, intentional actions — done consistently — can create sustainable momentum.
Let’s chat for a moment about six daily habits that will help you stay focused, grounded, and aligned as you move toward your next opportunity. Bonus? They won’t take all day, and you don’t need to be “in the mood” to knock them out.
1. Phone a Friend
Every day, connect with one person. Just one.
And here’s the part some of you might struggle with…
I’m not saying to connect with them to vent about your job search or to ask for a favor. Just to connect.
Authentic conversations matter — especially during a job search. Reach out to a former coworker, college friend, past manager, or new LinkedIn contact. You’d be surprised how many opportunities start with a “Hey, I was thinking about you today.”
I can assure you that your network is one of your most valuable job search tools as long as you use it with intention.
2. One a Day
Commit to applying for one aligned role per day instead of the 10 random ones you’re not excited about. I want you to find just one that feels like a good fit.
This keeps you from burning out and helps you stay laser-focused on quality over quantity. If you need help finding solid roles, start with my Weekly Remote Jobs Email (sign up here) or grab the 2025 List of 100 Remote Employers (grab it here).
One a day. That’s it. Let it be enough.
3. Connect with One Recruiter on LinkedIn
There’s a lot of talk out there about whether LinkedIn is “worth it” for job seekers — but as someone who’s been in the recruiting game for over 15 years, let me tell you: recruiters are still actively searching on LinkedIn every single day.
Make it a habit to connect with one recruiter each day. Personalize the message so they know it came from a human.
If you’re unsure where to start or what to say, my LinkedIn Job Search Toolkit (grab it here) is packed with connection scripts, profile refresh tips, and all the tools you need to make LinkedIn work for you.
4. Mind + Body Check-In
If you’re feeling exhausted, sluggish, or uninspired during your job search, it’s not just in your head. We all know transitions can be stressful, and your nervous system needs support.
Take 10 minutes each day to nourish your mind and body. YouTube yoga. A walk around the block. Breathing exercises. An encouraging podcast or meditation. Whatever fits your life right now.
There are tons of free and low-cost tools out there: Calm, Insight Timer, Yoga with Adriene, Apple Fitness+, Peloton, or even a quick dance break in your kitchen while using the spoon as your karaoke mic. This totally comes from lived experience. 🙂
5. Track Your Progress
I know we’ve all heard the saying: “What gets tracked gets done.”
Whether you love a good spreadsheet or you’re more of a paper planner girlie, build a system that lets you see your progress. I want you to track applications sent, follow-ups made, and people connected with.
If you’re not sure where to start, grab my Six-Figure Job Search Planner here. It’s a printable tracker designed by a recruiter for job seekers who want structure without the overwhelm.
If you prefer a luxe planner, I recommend the Full Focus Planner (here) or the Cloth & Paper Undated Planner (here). I use and absolutely love both!
Let’s get you out of the sticky note chaos and into structure and clarity going forward.
6. End Your Day with a Quick Check-In
Before you close the laptop or queue up your next AppleTV binge, take five quiet minutes to reflect.
What did you do today that moved you forward?
What felt hard or heavy?
What’s one small-medium-large thing you’re proud of?
This check-in isn’t about productivity guilt. It’s about awareness because when you track your energy, actions, and wins, you’ll start to see patterns and progress.
Jot your answers in your Notes app, a voice memo, or your planner. Your system doesn’t have to be perfect, but it does need to provide a space for you to be completely honest with yourself.
I’ll leave you with this…
You don’t have to do everything to change your job search, but you do need to do something consistently. These six habits aren’t magic, but when practiced daily, they will change how you feel, how you show up, and the results you create.
Want to make it even easier? Start with just one habit this week that you can commit to for seven days. Then layer in another.
I’m here if you need a little (or a lot) of additional structure, strategy, or support.. Grab one of my tools above or book a Career Clarity Session if you’re ready to talk through your next move.
